TPO

TPO: Thermoplastic Olefin or Polyolefin

TPO membranes are single-ply roof membranes constructed from ethylene propylene rubber. They are designed to combine the durability of rubber with the proven performance of hot-air weldable seams. They have been tested as environmentally friendly, safe to install, and highly resistant to ozone and algae. The material’s seam strengths are three to four times those of EPDM’s adhesive and tape seams. TPO is highly resistant to tears, impacts, and punctures, with good flexibility to allow for building movement.

The trend toward Energy Star-compliant reflective roofing is a huge benefit for TPO.

This high, sustained reflectivity is saving significant energy and money for building owners all over the United States. Because the TPO roofing system is mechanically attached and insulation can be placed under the membrane during the roof installation, you can also reduce your building’s heat loss in the winter.

Benefits of TPO Roofing

Economical: TPO roofing is attractive both in residential and commercial construction due to its reasonable cost. TPO offers many of the same benefits as PVC roofing, such as hot-air weldable seams and energy efficiency, but at a lower price.

Durable: In comparison to other thermoplastic membranes, TPO resists mold growth, dirt accumulation, tears, impacts, and punctures. It is made to be flexible and can accommodate the movement or settling of a building. Reinforced TPO membranes can handle a building’s thermal expansion and contraction more effectively than other single-ply roofing products.

Energy-Efficient: The energy efficiency of TPO roofing membranes makes them highly attractive to homeowners who want to save on cooling costs while benefiting the environment through a reduced carbon footprint. A TPO membrane’s reflective surface exceeds the EPA’s Energy Star requirements and its white, tan and gray color options are listed with the Cool Roof Rating Council. This means that having a TPO roof on your home or building will keep the interior more comfortable on hot summer days while reducing your air conditioning bill.
